About us

Hi, we’re Kate and Scott.

We’re the husband-and-wife team behind Blicks Blooms, our flower farm in Renwick, just outside Blenheim.

What started as a love of growing flowers has somehow turned into thousands of plants, two flower-loving kids, a lot of compost and a fairly constant list of things we want to build or grow next.

Kate grows the flowers and looks after the creative side of Blicks. She plans what we grow each season, starts an unreasonable number of plants from seed and creates our bouquets and garden-style florals. Scott is the builder and problem solver, which is particularly handy when Kate comes up with another idea that requires constructing something.

We grow without synthetic sprays, herbicides or fertilisers. Instead, we put a huge amount of work into the soil using compost, vermicompost, cover crops and other soil-first growing practices. It’s something we care a lot about, both because of the land we’re growing on and because we want this little patch to be full of life.

We grow with the seasons, so what comes out of the garden is constantly changing. We like flowers with movement, wonky stems, beautiful colours and all the little imperfections that make locally grown flowers feel different from something that’s travelled halfway around the world.

These days Blicks Blooms includes bouquets, weddings and events, wholesale flowers for florists and our Pick Your Own days here on the farm.

Mostly, we just really love growing flowers and getting to share them with people.
